Meet Dr. Joy Chu
Dr. Joy Chu has been a board-certified orthodontist in the Dallas area for over 20 years. With her patients always at the top of her mind, it is a pleasure for Dr. Chu to watch our patients' smiles develop and their confidence blossom. Dr. Chu feels happy and truly loves her work, and takes great pride in seeing all of the beautiful smiles throughout the years.
Education and Experience
After graduating from the College of Dentistry at Peking University, Dr. Chu practiced general dentistry in Beijing for several years before coming to the United States to attend the College of Dentistry at the Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus, OH, where she received her Ph.D. from the Department of Oral Biology. Dr. Chu was awarded the OSU Alumni Graduate Research Award upon her graduation. Her post-doctoral training at Texas A&M University in Dallas, TX was focused on wound healing in diabetic conditions. She then moved back to OSU to study in the Department of Orthodontics at the College of Dentistry, where she received three years of extensive post-graduate training in orthodontics and performed molecular biology research on periodontal pathogens for her Master’s degree in Dentistry in 2001.
With a constant emphasis on continuing education to keep her on the leading edge of her profession, Dr. Chu attends the annual American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) meeting, as well as other local continuing education lectures focused on orthodontics. She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, which has been recertified in 2020. Dr. Chu also teaches orthodontics at Texas A&M College of Dentistry!
Outside the Office
In her spare time, Dr. Chu loves spending time with her family and she also likes giving back to our community. In 2010, she had the opportunity to be a mentor in the Frisco ISD Mentoring Program. When she finds the time, Dr. Chu enjoys painting, exercising, and traveling.
